D.S.D Junior (U20) team were in action in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday at the European Clubs Cross Country Championships, where 25 nations were represented in this top European competition. Abbie Taylor entered this race in top form, after her recent 9.36 3,000m Indoors, and showed immediately to the front of the field. The pace up front was fast and furious as four athletes broke away from the rest of the field. Abbie looked comfortable over the log hurdles, placed at different points on this twisting dry course. With 300m to go Abbie still looked like she could win her first European Championship, but was only denied a medal by five seconds, after battling all the way to the line to finish 4th. Niamh Carey, who won the U.19 Irish Championships and was also in the lead group for the first half of the race, ran a determined race to finish 16th overall. Grace Dervan 24th, Aisling King 34th, Roseanne McCullough 35th and Lucy McCann 50th were the remaining finishers for D.S.D., for an excellent 5th place overall. Well done to all!
