Baa baa, see how they run!! Neighbours dropped in to do their Goal Mile!!

The DSD Goal Mile kicked off the New Year at St Thomas campus.

The first on the track was an early starter from out Fit for Youth group with her visiting Canadian family. They arrived early at 10am and faithfully completed their 4 rounds of the track.

Then in rapid succession every 15 minutes we had several miles with the course being divided into inner lanes for the more competitive runners, keen to get the course record. The outer lanes were full of families and friends half jogging, walking, pushing buggies and generally full of the joys of the new year.

The course record on the day was completed by a 16 year old(5.33), very impressive and hopefully he will have a think about athletics in his future along with his training for Hockey and Sailing.

There was lots of tea, coffee, nibbles and hot chocolates which went down very well with our young enthuastic runners. We also had amazing commentary and music which kept all the runners, spectators and volunteers going.

Our local sheep also paid us a visit on the day, were seen looking over the track, wondering what all the music and laughter was all about!

Many thanks to Becca Tighe for organising an amazing event. The photos speak for themselves below.

Many thanks to Lindie Naughton for providing wonderful photos in the link below in Flickr and all the amazing volunteers - the event raised €1,933.20
