Dear Members, 28/04/16
Our club, Dundrum South Dublin Athletic Club (DSD), organises the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon on the June bank holiday each year. This year it is on Monday the 6th of June. The event is in its 34th year and is DSD’s main fundraising activity. It is the largest women only race in the world and has thankfully grown from strength to strength since 1983.
Club members traditionally support us by volunteering and helping to deliver this world class event. A total of over 1,100 volunteers and personnel are required to deliver the event on race day alone. On the days preceding the race, DSD members deliver the entire registration process from the RDS. This of course means we require an enormous effort from our club members. We are hugely dependant on parents, families, friends and athletes over 16 to assist us. This year we require 300 of our members to help by volunteering.
Every family is asked to volunteer at least one day. The following are the times and locations;
RDS Saturday 04th June 2016 10:00-18:00 (REGISTRATION) RDS Sunday 05th June 2016 10:00-18.00 (REGISTRATION) Pembroke St Upper Monday 06th June 2016 12.00-18.00 (RACE DAY) While volunteering in Simmonscourt RDS, we will reimburse you the €6 charge for parking (just present your ticket). We will also feed you during your shift and provide you with a commemorative T-shirt. On Bank Holiday Monday parking in Dublin city is free. Any member/family/friend over 16 who provides at least 1 “Full” days volunteering will be invited to the Celebration Dinner on the evening of 6thJune at 8pm. You tell us that you and your family enjoy the excellent training & coaching provided by DSD at extremely good value. It’s now your turn to assist your club. Please email the attached form by 13th of May to let us know which days you are available. I look forward to seeing you on the day and celebrating an event which is without equal and is organised in such a professional fashion by our Club. Yours faithfully, Declan Ryan. Chairman DSDAC P.S. A special prize will be given to the volunteer (over 16) who is deemed the happiest & most helpful at the finish area on Race Day, prize will be awarded at the celebration dinner. Quotes from the front!!!!!!!!! “I attended the Race Day volunteering in Dublin City centre, as I’ve a daughter & son who’ve been in the club, a wonderful uplifting experience in both senses” Eunan Friel (DSD Parent) “I had my first year volunteering at registration last year, I enjoyed it so much and realised how important it was for the club, I went in the next day also” Andrew Flynn (DSD Adult Meet & Train) It takes all of us to deliver a great athletics club, don’t forget to play your part.

You will need to fulfil your volunteering obligations with other calls for volunteering before September 2016.
