Cian Dunne produced a gold medal performance yesterday in A.I.T., in the final of the U.16 boys hurdles, winning his first ever individual national title. Cian showed great strength and determination, as he hurdled to gold and a P.B of 8.79. It was great to see the smile on his face as he stepped up on the rostrum to receive his medal. His training partner, Laura Gallagher, had to be happy with silver on this occasion, having won the gold for past two years. There is no doubt that she will bounce back to gold in future competitions. Others winning silver were Ciarán Carthy, in the U.18 boys 200m (22.67), following up on his silver in the 400m; Molly Hourihan U.18 girls 200m (25.78) and Aimee Kenny U.16 girls 800m (2.21.30). Ben Jones also ran a good race in the U.18 boys 800m finishing 3rd (1.59.38) with Emma Ryan 3rd U.18 girls 800m (2.18.95). Abi Kennedy just missed out on a medal in the U.14 girls shot (10.77), with her brother 5th in the U.12 boys 8.06, and Charlie Thornton 5th U.18 boys Triple Jump 11.47. Corrine Kenny wasn’t at her best as she faded to 4th in the U.17 800m (2.21.00) and Patrick Tucker was 6th in the U.17 200m (23.24 heat 23.54 final). David Bosch also ran very well to reach the U.15 boys hurdles final and finished 6th in 9.60 and Darcy Hutter just missed a bronze medal by 2 centimetres in the U.12 Long Jump with a leap of 4.02, finishing 4th.
