What a week for D.S.D athletes, as they ran into great form in Europe and U.S.A. Top performance accolade must go to Zak Curran, who became the first D.S.D athlete to compete in the Diamond League, with a great 2nd place finish in the 800 in a season’s best of 1.46.88. Zak, who started his career at 400m, showed the sprint finish this engenders, with a scorching finish. The winner, Thomas Arne Roth, had to set a new PB, to beat Zak in a time of 1.45.75.
The great tradition at 800m in D.S.D., was continued by Siofra Cleirigh Buttner in the N.C.A.A., finals in Eugene, Oregon, as she strove valiantly to win a top class collegiate final. Always to the front in a slow run race, Siofra accelerated with 200m to go for a two metre lead, but was caught in the final sprint to the line and finished a great 4th place in 2.05.73.
In the Flanders Cup in Belgium, Patrick MacGabhann had his first International win in a 3,000m race, with a huge PB of 8.26.85. Twin brother, Jack, also produced a PB, finishing 2nd in his 1500m race at the same meeting, in 4.05.00.
Meanwhile, on the home front, Maria McCambridge, won the Patrick Bell 5k in 17.12.
Well done to all!
