DSD endurance Squad where out in force in Portlaoise on St Patricks day for the Streets of Portlaoise 5K, the first race of the 2024 Peugeot Road Series.
This race is part of the nine race Peugeot Race series to find the Top Endurance Squad in Ireland. The team competition is based on a Team of 6 and must include 3 women and 3 Men in each race.
DSD won the Women’s Team, Mens Team and the Overall team competition to take a lead in the series after the first race.
Grace Lynch and Emmett Jennings led the line superbly as always, both finishing 2nd in their categories.
Grace was followed home by Eimear Maher in 7th, Maria McCambridge 11th and Serena Tuffy 13th to lead the women’s team to a win.
In the men’s race Emmet was supported by Declan O’Meara in 6th, Eanna O’ Bradaigh 10th, Sean Quinn 13th, Jamie Byrne 14th, Aaron Donnelly making a welcome return to DSD colours 18th, Robert Corbally 25th , Ruben Bartelink 36th, Roly Mossop 45th.
Declan was also the leading Junior, Maria won the F45 competition, Ruben won the M50 competition.
The Race was also a first outing this season for some of our junior endurance athletes with Jake Mathews 38th, Cillian Chambers 49th, Tadgh Bartelink 52nd – all running Personal Bests for 5K.
This was a strong opening performance from all of the athletes from Juniors to Masters and sets us up well for the challenge of winning the overall series.
The second race in the Peugeot series is the Streets of Kilkenny 5K on Thursday 28th March.
