Following upon D.S.D Juveniles’ great results in the National Relays last week, where they won six Gold; three Silver and two Bronze team medals, more titles were achieved at the weekend in Tullamore, where Day 1 and Day 2 of the AAI National Track & Field Championships continued.
First to win her event in great style was Laura Gallagher, who took the U.15 80m hurdles title, with a time of 11.89 PB, to add to her U.15 Indoor title and her U.14 Indoor & Outdoor titles of last year. Laura also finished 4th in the U.15 100m in 12.80 PB.
Our 400m athletes are in sparkling form at the moment and showed this yesterday with a great new PB by Niamh Gowing, who decided to forego the hurdles, for the flat 400m, and was rewarded with a time of 56.56 when finishing first in the U.19 girls race. Katie Magee was 4th in this final in 59.08.
James Holden returned to his winning ways taking the U19 boys 400m title in 49.52. Also in this race and in their first National Championships, Paul O’Callaghan was 5th 53.86 and Luc Gray 7th 54.00, and also first timer Orla Walsh was 8th in the U.18 400 final in 61.61.
In the U.17 boys 400m final Ciarán Carthy showed his class again, when winning in 50.77 PB, and also in this race Ben Jones finished 4th in 52.22 PB, after his 3rd place finish in the 800m in 1.58.
Liam Jenkins equalled his PB, when he finished 2nd in the U.16 boys High Jump with a jump of 1.78. Molly Hourihan was 3rd in the U.17 girls Long Jump 5.32.
Eva O’Donohoe 7th Javelin U.16 23.98; Claudia Moran 8th U.14 High Jump 1.40; Abi Kennedy 7th Shot 8.18.
At 3,000m Aisling King (U.19) won bronze in 10.46.07; Saidhbh O’Loan (U.17) 3rd 11.12.50 and Aaron Donnelly 7th U.18 race 9.16.89.
In the U.16 boys 100m final Gavin Doran was an impressive 4th in 11.50 PB and Tobi Edward 7th 11.80 PB.
Cian Dunne finished 6th in the U.15 boys 80m hurdles 12.59, and Hannah Murray was 8th in the U.15 girls 80m hurdles 13.04.
