Ronan Gately – our Masters Track & Field Captain has summarised below some of the recent fabulous performances by the Club’s Masters Athletes at Home and Abroad.
June 29th & 30th – NI Masters at Mary Peters Track Belfast
Lucy Moore-Fox W60: Gold in Hammer with 23.07m and Silver in Shot-put with 7.44m.
Peadar McGing M60: Incredibly managed to compete and medal in all 9 events entered (Six Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze) as follows: Golds in High-Jump 1.40m; 300m Hurdles 49.36 secs; 100m Hurdles 18.29 secs; 400m 66.72 secs; Long-Jump 4.02m; Triple Jump 8.87m; Silvers in Hammer 24.23m and Weight for Distance 6.08m and Bronze in Discus 26.83m
Shane Sheridan M60: 2 Golds in 100m (12.89) and 200m (26.50).
June 29th & 30th – British Masters Decathlon
Kevin Byrne M45 – Silver with 4798 points including an excellent 1.61m in High Jump.
Ronan Gately M50 – Gold with 4795 points despite a fall at 1st hurdle in 100m Hurdles.
July 13th – Scottish Masters in Grangemouth
Shane Sheridan M60 – 2 Golds in 100m (12.66 setting a new Irish Record, beating the existing record of 12.74 which had stood for 32 years!) and 200m (26.62m – he has the 26.20 record in his sights!).
22nd June – Dunshaughlin 10k Road Race
DSD Ladies team won with 2 Masters on it (Maria McCambridge and Cathryn Brady; Niamh Devlin Senior was first on team).
Maria McCambridge W40 – Gold in 37:06
Cathryn Brady W50 – Silver in 40:12 (both the winner and Cathryn broke the course record for W50 category which had been set in 1990).
10th July – BHAA 5k
Eileen Gillick (W40) – 2nd lady and 1st in W40 category with a pb of 20:13 .
13th July – Day of 5k PBs in Le Cheile.
Eoin Fogarty won his race and got a new PB of 15:54:49
Cathryn Brady new track PB of 19.25 .
