DSD Top Club at National Seniors!

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Dundrum South Dublin AC athletes had a remarkable weekend of success at the National Senior Track & Field Championships in Santry, taking Top Club title, from Leevale AC 2nd and Galway City Harriers 3rd.

Leading the charge for gold was Hiko Tonosa, who claimed 1st place 5,000m on Saturday and 10,000m Sunday, the first time that this double has been achieved.

Having had a hard race on Saturday, when he was harassed all the way by Sean Tobin, and winning by two seconds, Hiko showed an incredible fitness level, to come out a day later to beat Paul O’Donnell, also DSD. Paul picked up his first medal at National Senior level. This followed on a great race by Meghan Ryan in the Women’s 5,000m, when she knocked 20 seconds off her PB, in 16.24.31.

Síofra Cleirigh Büttner, who is very close to qualifying for Tokyo at 800m, was outsprinted by Louis Shanahan, Leevale AC, at the finish line in the 800m, with Georgie Hartigan 3rd.

Jerome Caprice, who is hoping to represent his home country, Mauritius, in the Olympics, drew clear in the closing stages of the 10,000m walk for a clear win in 46.39.48. Kate Doherty produced her best 100m hurdles race to date, finishing 2nd to Sarah Lavin in great new PB of 13.48.
