DSD endurance Squad took to the roads again last night for the Bob Heffernan and Mary Hanley 5K road race.
This race is part of the Eighth race Peugeot Race series and going into this event the DSD endurance squad were showing their dominance on the road having won in Portlaoise, Kilkenny & Tullamore events.
The team competition is based on a Team of 6 and must include 3 women and 3 Men.
In what was a highly competitive Women’s race Emma McEvoy ran a huge PB to win the race in 15.59 – her first time under 16minutes. To add to the DSD dominance on the night Emma was followed home closely by Grace Lynch in 2nd place in a PB of 16.07. The ever-dependable Maria McCambridge completed the scoring for the Women’s team finishing in 12th place in 17.21.
In the men’s race Sean Quinn led the team home finishing a highly commendable 4th in 14.51. He was followed home by Eanna O’Bradaigh in 7th, Eanna running a PB of 14.57, his first time to break 15mins. Declan O’Meara was 3rd team member to score finishing in 14th in 15.19. He was followed in by Oscar Lubliner in 16th (15.24), David Gormley 17th (15.26), Ruben Bartelink 70th (16.28), Adriele Primo Mello 100th (16.55), Patrick Elliot 140th (17.22).
In the age categories Sean and Emma won the men and women’s junior competition respectively, Maria won the O45 category and Ruben was 3rd in the M50’s.
DSD won the clean sweep in the team competition winning the Women’s team, Men’s team and Overall Peugeot Series team competitions.
The strong performances from all of the athletes from Juniors to Masters, demonstrates the strength in depth of the club’s endurance group.
Next stop in the Peugeot series of races is the Dunshaughlin 10K in June. DSD will again look to field a strong team who will be looking for victory to consolidate our lead in the overall team competition.
