DSD’s Emmet Jennings and Grace Lynch put in very strong performances at the national 10k road race around the Dunboyne route in County Meath yesterday.
Emmet secured a podium place finishing 3rd in a PB of 29.44 and Grace ran close to her 10K PB, for 5th in 33.51.
The men’s race was billed as a one of the deepest 10k fields in some time, and it didn’t disappoint with the first three athletes across the line, all breaking the 30-minute mark.
Sean Tobin, who is preparing for the London Marathon, led the race from the opening kilometre, with Emmet battling all the way with 2nd placed Pierre Murchan. This 3rd place adds to Emmet’s haul of national road medals adding to his 5Mile win & 10Mile 3rd from last summer.
The women’s race was equally as strong with the top 4 athletes having recently won national championships from cross country to marathon. The top six athletes breaking 34 minutes. Grace battled all the way to finish just seconds off her road PB. To finish a close 5th in this level of competition suggests a strong summer is on the cards for Grace.
