Emmet Jennings claimed his first National Senior Track Championship with an excellent run in the 10,000 on Saturday evening in Morton Stadium.
The race started off at a leisurely pace with the leaders going through 3K in a relatively slow 10mins. Emmett then took control putting in a 68 second lap to break away from the field and establish a lead that went out to almost 150m at one point. There were a few nervy moments in the final mile of the race as the chasing pack started to close, however Emmett rallied again to stay away and secure a notable win.
There were big runs in the 1500m from some of our development Juniors at the AAI games on Sunday. The standout performance was that of Sean Healy taking almost 11 seconds off his PB running 4.06 in the 1500m. Callum Downes took 6 seconds off his PB finishing in 4.12.
In the 400 hurdles Rachel Lynch followed up her outstanding 3rd place in the National Seniors with a fine 2nd place in 64.07.
DSD Endurance Squad were also in action on the roads of Edenderry early Sunday morning to claim their 7th consecutive team win and secure the Peugeot Series win.
Eanna O’Bradaigh (52.37) led the team home finishing an excellent 2nd place in the 10 mile road race. Killian Mooney (53.21) came home close behind in 3rd and Declan O’Meara made sure of the team win with an 8th place finish in 54.46. Declan also claiming the win in the junior men’s competition.
