D.S.D athletes were in action for their schools at the D.C.U Invitational, at St. Claire’s on Thursday last. Top performance of the day came from Grace Dervan (U.17) Wesley College, who achieved her first open race victory. Grace sat in behind Roisin Treacy (St. Gerard’s) until the start of the last lap, when she accelerated away for a comprehensive win.
Morgan Clarkson (Colaiste Eoin) dominated the U.14 Boys and team mate Alex O’Floinn was a close up 3rd in the U.15 3,000m race where national champion Sean Donohoe coasted to 1st place.
One of the largest fields of runners contested the U.14 Girls (300 finishers) and Eimear Maher finished a gallant 2nd, with Saoirse O’Brien in 4th place; Eabha Nally 12th and Anna Neary 14th.
The Senior Boys race over 4,500m was a spectacular contest from the gun as Conor Halpin,Blackrock College, followed up on the top form displayed at the Antrim International, when he burst into the lead at half way and almost got away from the chasing bunch. Sean O’Leary, who had pipped Conor in Antrim, was once again his nemesis, as he closed over the last 800m to take gold with Conor picking up silver.
Well done also to Caoibhe Nic Eachain, Colaiste Iosagain; 7th U.17 Girls; Aimee Kenna 7th U.15 Girls; William Kinsella, Adam Harvey, Liam Blackburn, James Linehan, (u.17 Boys) and Ross McCann, Senior Boys.
