Gold for U.17 Boys!

The road to Dundrum is once again paved with gold after the second session of the National Juvenile Cross Country Championships in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny. A fabulous performance by our U.17 Boys saw a 40 point margin between them and the rest of the country for a comprehensive victory. D.S.D., were led home by Sean Quinn, the Dublin champion, supported by Jamie Byrne, Andrew McGilton and Killian O’Brien.

It was a big day for our U.11 Girls, contesting their first All Ireland Championships. They were clustered behind the leading group of young athletes and battled to the finish line on a tough course for 10 year olds. They were rewarded for their efforts by picking up silver medals in the team event.

The U.15 Boys were a few points short of Bronze medals in their 3,500m race and this experience could be the driving force for their future in this sport.

Our young athletes will hope to follow in the footsteps of Hiko Tonosa; Paul O’Donnell, Emmet Jennings (Senior Men) and Emma McEvoy (Junior Women) who will represent Ireland in the European Cross Country Championships, in Abbotstown, next Sunday.

Good luck to all in this prestigious event, which will see World No.1 athlete at the moment, Jacob Ingebrigtsen, Norway, come to Dublin.

Well done to all our juvenile athletes who competed yesterday!
