A small group of Junior athletes travelled to Athlone on Saturday for National Junior and U.23 Indoor Championships and came away with great success.
Jack Olivier, participating for the first time in Athlone and moving down from his usual 400m, performed to the highest level, taking the U.20 200m title in 21.60 and finishing runner up in the 60m in 6.95.
Next up was Ciarán Carthy, in the 400m. where we had the battle of the day! Ciarán and Jack Raftery, Donore, started off at a blistering pace and ran shoulder to shoulder over the final 100m, with Jack just taking it on the line.
In the Junior Women’s 200m Molly Hourihan ran a fine race to finish 3rd.
Gregor McCullagh Travers was happy to reach the 400m final with a PB (52.17) in the heat, and also in the U.23 200m James Holden ran well to reach the final.
Others performing well and out of their age groups; – Charlotte Bourke who reached the U.20 women’s 400m final, Roisin Healy who was unfortunate to pick up an injury in the U.20 60m; Cian Dunne and Tobi Edward 200m; Erika Doyle and Cara Murphy 200m and Jack Moraghan 400m.
