Great Performances by D.S.D. Athletes!

The new track season has started off in spectacular fashion for D.S.D. athletes over the past week.

First into action was Hiko Tonosa on Tuesday night when he recorded one of the fastest times ever in Ireland over 5,000m (road), setting another course record in his fourth Kia Series race, held in Enfield, Co. Meath. With a time of 14.19 there was a 33 seconds gap between Hiko and the second placed runner, Peter Somba (Dunboyne A.C) Kenya. Given that the last time they clashed there was only a 3 second gap, it seems that Hiko has moved on to a new level, which bodes well for his upcoming track programme, culminating in the Morton Games on 19th July. Hiko now has 4 records in 4 wins in the Kia series.

Luke McCann knocked 3 seconds off his 1500m time recording a great 3.45.80 in Oordegem, Belgium.

Zak Curran had a magnificent win in the 800m at the British Milers Meet in Watford, with a time of 1.47.89. This puts him into No.1 position (Ireland) for the season, at this distance.

Also running well in Watford, Patrick MacGabhann finishing 5th in 3.55.96, and Brian Maguire (17 years) had a 10th place finish in PB of 3.58.11, which qualifies him for the European Youth Olympics. Paul O’Donnell was 12th 5,000m in 14.39.7 (PB), just one place in front of Jack MacGabhann 14.43.45.

Meghan Ryan recorded a time of 16.45.55 (5,000m), with Fiona Clinton a few places behind in 17.20.59.
