Hiko had prepared diligently for an attempt on the Olympic time of 2.08.10, even returning to Ethiopia to finalize his training regime. Weather conditions on the day were good and Hiko kept up the perfect pace up to 35k, as he passed half way in 1.04.04. Unfortunately the wheels came off in the final few miles, but he still achieved a top class time of 2.15.01, a great time for a first attempt at the marathon distance. This time also broke Noel Berkeley's long standing club record of 2.15.28.
He will have to reset his programme and has plenty of time over the next few months to do so.
Keep it up Hiko and make your dream come true!
