Hiko in flying form! (Updated)

Updated: Oct 30

A magnificent run by Hiko Tonosa in the Dublin City Marathon yesterday, saw him smash the National Record with a time of 2.09.43.   Hiko, who had just returned from an extended training camp in Addis Ababa over the past 9 months, saw all his sacrifices in terms of time and effort in training pay off, as he ran a very well paced race, to clinch 3rd spot overall in a high grade International race.  There was a top grade African prescence in the race and Moses Kemei, Kenya was followed home by  Abebaw Desalew, Ethiopia.   Hiko had to battle all the way to the finish line, but he was not to be denied a 3rd place podium spot beating Abraraw Misganaw Ethiopia and Hillary Kipsambu, Kenya.

As Ireland has a great reputation in the Marathon event since the day of John Treacy’s Olympic silver medal in Los Angeles, we may have found a worthy successor in Hiko, who has added a national gold medal to his previous victories in the 3,000m Indoors and 5,000m/10,000m Outdoors, Hiko should be able to add to his reputation now that he has found his best event, knocking over 6 minutes off his previous best time.

Grace Lynch also added to her reputation, as one of the most consistent of our female performers.  Grace stormed to a 3rd place finish in the National Marathon Championships with a huge P.B of 2.36.09.

A great day all round for D.S.D, with our Meet & Train squad doing themselves proud with bronze medals going to the Men’s and Women’s Senior teams and our W.50’s team.

Big congratulations all round!
