Hiko Tonosa took a giant step in the right direction, in his quest to take the National Cross Country title on the 21st November in Santry. Hiko ran away with the Tallaght 5k road race in a sparkling time of 14.03, and by a winning margin of 40 seconds from Mitchell Byrne, Rathfarnham A.C. Hiko attended a training camp in Portugal recently and this kind of commitment looks like it will pay dividends for the upcoming season. Having already achieved the unique distinction of winning the 5,000m and 10,000m in the National Track & Field Championships in July, it is all systems go for the new season where he will look forward to a prominent showing.
Maria McCambridge returned to road racing competiton in the same race in Tallaght, finishing 3rd in the Women’s race in 17.52 (1st W45). Maria, former winner of the Dublin City Marathon, only returned to training 6 months ago, having given birth to her second child.
Good news also from USA, where Sophie Murphy, representing Iona College, has qualified for the first time for the NCAA Championhips. Sophie finished 8th in the N.E. Regional Championships, leading her team to a 6th place finish.
Well done to all!
