A great team effort was shown by our U.19/20 women’s team over 4,000m at the Dublin Junior & Senior Cross Country Championships at Santry Demesne on Sunday, with Roisín Treacy 2nd; Emma Ryan 3rd and Faye Dervan 5th winning the team title for D.S.D. Also in support was Roisín McElligott 15th.
Even better was to follow in the U.19/20 men’s 6,000m, with Aaron Donnelly and Oisín Kelly setting off at a blistering pace to burn off all opposition from Clonliffe and Raheny, to finish 1st and 2nd, James Maguire ran strongly to finish 7th, and with Rosa O’Finneide 12th; Liam Blackburn 20th; James Crowley 22nd; it was another team win for D.S.D.
In the Senior Men’s race we had to settle for 2nd place to Clonliffe Harriers as an unfortunate set of circumstances saw Paul O’Donnell in 3rd place injure his back on the last lap, which necessitated his withdrawal. Hiko Tonoa, returning from a long break, found the muddy underfoot conditions difficult , but still managed to finish 3rd. Emmet Jennings had a great run in 5th place, with Robert Corbally 10th; Killian Mooney 13th; Mark Molloy 16th; Rick Nally 17th; Patrick MacGabhann 19th; Christian McKenna 21st
A brilliant front running display by Efrem Guidey, who led from the gun, ensured Clonliffe’s 1st place team finish, with D.S.D., 2nd.
Aisling King finished 23rd in Senior Women’s race.
Well done to all!
