In what was a busy weekend for the clubs endurance athletes, in addition to success on the track and on the roads, we also had Killian Mooney representing Ireland at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships In Austria. There were 1400 athletes from over 60 nations competing in the heart of the Alps.
Killian comes from that rare breed of athlete who just loves running uphill ! Last Wednesday 7th June, Killian placed 56th in the Vertical race, The vertical uphill may be the shortest of the elite races, but it is the most sadistic – with more than 1000m of elevation gain across its 7.1km course, the gradient approaching the finish at Elferhutte hitting a truly gut-wrenching 40%. Killian finished in a time of 50 mins.
Killian then came back 3 days later on Saturday 10th and competed in the Classic “up and down” race over 13KM completing the course in 56th position in a time of 1hr.05.
Well done Killian!
