Masterful display by DSD Masters in Gothenburg

Jerome wins two silvers in Gothenburg!

Seven DSD Masters athletes performed at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden from 13th to 25th Aug 2024.


Six were representing Ireland and one, his native country, Mauritius.


There were over 8,000 athletes competing from 111 countries.


Jerome Caprice (M40), representing Mauritius, won double Silver in the 5000m Track Walk (in 22:07) and the 10k Road Walk (in 44:57)


Shane Sheridan (M65) earned an outstanding Bronze in the 100m running 13:05 secs (having set a new National Record of 12:95 secs in the semi-finals). Shane also placed 9th in the 200m in 27:76 (ran 27:56 in Heats). He was also part of Irish M65 4x100m team that finished 5th.


Our indefatigable Lucy Moore (W65) competed in the Triple Jump (11th) Hammer (18th) and Weight Throw (16th).


Kevin Byrne (M50) finished a highly creditable 20th (of 43) in the Decathlon, despite having picked up an injury early in the competition.


David O'Leary (M55) competing in his 1st World Masters finished the grueling 10k Road/trail race in 67th (of 80) in 46:29.


Ruaidhrí Kedney (M40) competed in the M40 4x400m Relay with team placing 7th in a stacked competition.


Ronan Gately (M55) competed in the 100m (43rd), 200m (51st) and 400m Hurdles (16th).
