Medals Galore for D.S.D., at National Juvenile Championships

It was another very successful weekend for D.S.D. A.C., in Tullamore, at the Irish Life National Juvenile Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

Following upon gold medals for Oisín Kelly 3,000m Steeplechase, and Laura Gallagher 100m Hurdles last weekend, the standard was set at a high mark and others were inspired by these classy performances. The hurdles races were almost an exhibition by D.S.D., athletes, with representation in many of the age groups. Laura led the way again with a second gold medal in the 300m hurdles, in a time of 44.93 (PB), and she was followed home in 3rd place by Cara Murphy who also achieved a new PB of 45.35. Laura also competed on Saturday in the flat 400m running a fast heat and finishing 2nd in the final in 59.06 (PB). This was a great boost for Laura as she heads off to Swansea for Schools International.

Cian Dunne, who will represent Ireland, at the European Youth Olympics in Baku, was in top form in the shorter hurdles with a silver in the 300m hurdles 39.29; Bronze 100m hurdles 14.36; and 4th 400m flat 52.08.

In the U.18 Girls 400m hurdles, Charlotte Bourke battled all the way to the finish line, to take silver in new PB of 65.07., having finished 4th in the flat 400m on Saturday in 58.95.

It was great to see Molly Hourihan return to form after a break for Leaving Cert., leading all the way in the U.19 200m and just pipped at the finish line to take silver in 25.81 (PB). On Saturday Molly finished 4th in the 100m in 12.88.

Gavin Doran, who also looks forward to the Schools International, had to settle for silver in the U.18 boys 200m 22.73, with Adam Whitten 5th in 23.58. Also finishing 5th in the U.17 girls 200m was Erika Doyle in 26.55, and Roisin Healy U.18 girls Long Jump 5.00.

Cal Traynor Russell U.14, had a very impressive first All-Ireland Championship, finishing 3rd in the 80m 9.97 and also taking the bronze in the 200m 24.93.

Jamie Byrne finished 6th in the U.15 boys 1500m in 4.24.78.

Oisín Kelly took a bronze medal, to add to his gold of last week, in the U.19 boys 3,000m 8.58.25.

In the U.15 girls 2,000m walk, Ciara Wilson finished a very good 5th in 11.47.58.

In the field events, Sean Cleary was 7th in the U.15 Shot Putt 10.13; and Emma Roche 6th U.18 Discus 24.60, and 8th Shot Putt 9.00.

Congratulations to all!
