D.S.D. athletes were in action on Day 2 of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone yesterday. Corinne Kenny set the ball rolling when she tried to lead all the way in the U.17 1500m, only to be caught on the finish line. Corinne was recovering from shin splints and missed some training in the last few weeks, but was as brave as a lion, only losing the gold medal in the last stride. Brian Maguire also won silver in the U.18 boys 1500m, with a very impressive run, finishing in 4.06.06, qualifying from the heats earlier in the day with a time of 4.32.85. Ciaran Carthy was also returning from a hip injury, but showed no signs of this, when finishing 2nd in the U.18 400m in 50.42, with his sister Rebecca also winning silver in the U.14 girls Walk. A good run for Ben Jones in the U.18 400m, saw him finish a close up 4th, in 52.29. Molly Hourihan was 5th in the U.18 girls 400m final in 59.47, having won her heat earlier in the day. Ellie Dunphy won her first All Ireland medal finishing 3rd in the High Jump with a jump of 1.45.
Cian Dunne was 7th in the U.16 60m 7.71 (PB in heat 7.67) and Claudia Moran 9th Shot 8.02 and 11th High Jump 1.35.
Well done to all!
