Conditions were ideal for the Autumn Open International Cross Country at the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, yesterday, and there were strong results all round from the D.S.D. endurance athletes.
Our mixed 4 x 1 mile relay team of Eimear Maher; Aaron Donnelly; Amy O’Donoghue and Eanna O’Bradaigh kicked off the day, secured selection for the European Club Cross Country Championships, taking place in February 2025. The team finished an excellent 2nd place behind a strong DCH team.
The Senior Women’s 6k race was a hotly contested field. D.S.D’s Emma McEvoy, in her senior cross country debut went with the lead group early on, and stayed on strongly to finish 6th place and first U.23 athlete.
The Junior men, running 6k, started with the Senior men, running 8k, but that didn’t stop D.S.D’s Sean Quinn from getting to the start early on. Established athletes Sean Tobin and Keelan Kilrehill made the early pace, however they were joined at the front by Sean Quinn who pushed the pace, his last lap breaking away from the other Junior athletes, to win by 22 seconds from Noah Harris (Parnell A.C). Killian Mooney battled hard in the Senior race to finish a solid 16th place, in his first cross country race in a number of years. Ruairi Martin finished 17th in the M45 category.
It was a strong showing from the D.S.D. athletes, as we look forward to the Dublin Senior Cross Country Championships, and National C.C. Championships, scheduled for the 3rd and 17th November respectively.
