Time to celebrate! We are delighted with the news that the Women's Mini Marathon has won an award by the Sandyford Business District!
The Sandyford Business District Business Impact Awards 2021 were set up to celebrate companies and individuals who have excelled as Sandyford Business District navigates its way through the Covid-19 crisis.
The Women's Mini Marathon won the Leisure Resilience Award. This race which brings back fond memories of hundreds of us DSD volunteers helping to see off 35,000 women as they complete the course while raising tons of money for worthy causes. With the Covid-19 pandemic impacting everywhere in 2020, David O'Leary, General Manager of the Women's Mini Marathon, and his team decided to keep the race alive by going virtual. And their work paid off with over 22,000 women from all over the world taking part in the 2020 Virtual Women's Mini Marathon!
In accepting the Award on behalf of the team, David reminded us how huge this race is in the athletics calendar and its essential role in providing vital funds for a myriad of causes: "We estimate that about 1 million women have participated in our event over the last 38 years, and that somewhere in the order of €230 million has been raised for charities and causes here in Ireland."
Congratulations to David and all the team in the Women's Mini Marathon office! We are all looking forward to seeing this fabulous race take place in the streets of Dublin on the June bank holiday weekend of 2022!
