Senior Athletics Events
DSD have specialised training groups for senior athletes competing in all events. Our Athletics Ireland qualified coaches cater for Sprints, Endurance, Jumps, Throws and Walks. Athletes from these groups compete in all levels of competition, from inter-club competitions to international championships.
The track and field teams focus on sprints, jumps, and throws. The training includes track sessions, workouts in the gym and plyometric training. Athletes in these groups compete in individual events as well as relays and are a key part of the club league team. These events range from the sprints like the 100 and 200 meters to jumps and throws like the long jump and shot put.
The endurance groups train for events from 800 meters all the way up to the marathon. These athletes develop their endurance on the road, their speed on the track and their strength in the gym. They compete in competitions like the national cross-country championships and the Dublin marathon. The endurance athletes are also crucial to the club league team.
The DSD coaches work with athletes to set achievable goals and form a training plan and regime that will give them the best chance of success in their event.
